Two-syllable words or adverbs are simple but can be difficult for children to identify, so teaching two-syllable words and adverbs in two-syllable forms can help your students learn the difference between those types of words. Common two-syllable words are capitalized and stressed. Two-syllable adverbs are unstressed and not capitalized.
2nd Grade Adverbs Worksheets
Two-syllable words are easier to recognize, so you can use a worksheet to teach your students how to recognize the meaning of that kind of word. Using the 2nd Grade Worksheet: You will need a sheet of paper with 2 columns. First, find the center column for each of the two-syllable words. Next, find the left-most column for the word you are teaching your students to recognize. Make sure that you place the sheet of paper face down on the table before you start learning the words.
Circle the Adverbs Worksheet
In the first column, find the letters A-E. You can place a triangle with two straight lines across the top, and the bottom of the triangle should line up with one of the A’s. You can draw a line that runs from the triangle across the middle of the A’s, down the line to the letter O, across the line of the letter P and down the line to the left edge of the letter T. You can put a star on the line between the O and T for your student to “help” them in recognizing that one of the two-syllable words is a “two-syllable word”.
You can also look for the word NO in the first column, as this is the only letter in the square pattern that does not have an A or E. You can also place a star over the letters that follow the NO. You can also make a simple word bubble over the now if you wish.
Color the Adverbs, Verbs and Nouns Worksheet
In the second column, find the letters H-I. Place the letters I-O and U-Y as shown in the picture. You can repeat the square pattern with the other letters. Be sure to match the first three letters of each word as well.
If your child cannot immediately figure out the form letter by letter, there are several worksheets that will help your students recognize those two-syllable words. Using the 2nd Grade Worksheet: This worksheet can be a more challenging worksheet because it requires your students to use their knowledge of the English language in identifying the form letters of a word. Most people associate these two-syllable forms of words with the words that start with “n.”
Fill in Blanks Adverbs Worksheet
For example, the form letter of the word now is “n” followed by the letter O. “NO” is also one of the words that start with “n” and is one of the forms of the word NO. Using the 2nd Grade Worksheet: Look for the letters in the square pattern and the form letter when you write the word and the form letter of the word NO.
Write out the word with and form a letter of the word NO. Use the 2nd Grade Worksheet to have your students try to find the forms of the words AND or no and “no”. When they find the form letter AND, they can write it out and use the word NO in the second column for their paper to find out whether or not they understood what the word means.
