The worksheets in this section require ordering of sets of positive whole numbers with the same place values in least to greatest (ascending) order, starting with one and two digit values and progressing through six digit values.
The ordering numbers worksheets in this section deal specifically with putting whole numbers in smallest to largest order. This activity helps reinforce identifying the magnitude a number represents. The intial sets of worksheets start with two digit numbers, which is appropriate for 1st and 2nd grade students. Additional sets of worksheets introduce larger 3 digit, 4 digit, 5, digit and 6 digit problems. A student should have a well developed sense of place value by the time they reach 5th grade, and they should be capable of ordering not just sets of numbers with the same number of digits, but a collection of numbers with different significant digits. As an example, students should clearly understand that 10,000 is larger than 9,999 even though all those 9’s in the second number might initially seem to make a larger number. These worksheets can be used to suss out these types of errors in student’s mental models.
